Park Rules & Tips |
|
· Picking up after your dog is a must! · Collars and current rabies/license tags are required . · Respect the established boundaries of the dog park, across the river and stream isn't allotted land for use as the dog park as established by Milwaukee County. · The premise of being off leash is that your dog(s) is to be under voice command and within a reasonable distance so you can control your dog(s) actions. · In regards to the use of electronic training/shock collars: The premise of this park when it was established was that dogs were to be under voice command when off leash. If you are currently using an electronic/shock collar, it is strongly recommended that you strive towards not relying on the collar for control of your dog(s). FYI: electronic/ shock collars are not intended to control aggression issues, if you are using one for this purpose, please ask yourself the following: Why am I bringing a known aggressive dog to the dog park? · NO prong/pinch, spike collars are allowed IF your dog(s) is off-leash. This is for the safety of the dog(s) when playing. · No dogs in 'season' are allowed. · No dogs under 4 months of age are allowed. · Handlers must be at least 16 years old. · No more than 3 dogs per handler. · Owners are strictly liable for their dogs' actions. · You shouldn't allow your dog(s) to jump up on anyone, not everybody appreciates it. · Aggressive dogs must be removed from the Park immediately without debate. We realize that what constitutes an aggressive dog isn't always easy, if your dog is routinely involved in altercations with other dogs, chances are your dog shouldn't be at the park. · Pay attention to your dog(s) interactions with other dogs. Be aware of potential problems. Learn to read and respond to your dog's behavior. Be alert to the behavior of other dogs. · No dogs on the tables and benches, these are for people, not dogs. · This is a Dog Park, not a Playground for people or kids. (Proper dog sledding/ skijoring is allowed.) · Harsh, physical reprimands of animals will not be tolerated and may be subject to being reported to the proper authorities. · No professional business or solicitation is allowed at the park without prior approval from the Dog Park Board.
The following guidelines are highly recommended to be followed: · It is strongly recommended that children under 8 yrs. old not be brought to the Dog Park for safety concerns. If you bring children with you, please teach them to behave around dogs. Never let your children approach or pet a dog without the owner's presence or approval. You can't be certain how dogs will behave around children. Young children can be easily knocked over or trampled by running dogs. A running, squealing, or screaming child may incite an instinctual prey drive reaction in some dogs causing them to chase your child. One adult to supervise children and the family dog is not enough. Be sure you can take care of everyone you bring to the park. A staggering FYI statistic: According to the CDC There were 4.7 Million reported dog bites in 2003, More than 50% were children under 16 yrs. old. There have been a couple of reported bites to humans at the Dog Park since its inception, so the possibility does exist. · Retractable leads are not recommended due to safety concerns. If you need or prefer a long lead, using a 15 ft lunge line is a better choice. · Caution should be used when bringing food/treats/toys to the park. These can cause conflicts between dogs that value them. · Having a leash for each dog you bring in case you need to restrain your dog. |
